Short post requirements on social media platforms have become a dark pattern, encouraging writing in headlines without context, rewording and losing meaning to try fit post limits with arrays of abbreviations, endless arguing exasperated due to the length limits, and worse. Any social media platform that refuses to accept reasonably long posts is to be condemned as making problems worse, not better. At least 5K characters should be the lowest limit acceptable.

#Mastodon should make it TRIVIAL for administrators to increase the post length limit on their own instances, without requiring code edits and recompilation as is the case today.

FYI, my own instance is set to a 20K limit.
