The free software ecosystem is still much stronger and more resilient than the alternatives. Imagine how many such instances are still lurking within proprietary software, or have been detected and silently patched (generally companies don't do CVEs for security issues detected internally).

It is reasonable to assume that every large tech company has actors from at least a few major intelligence agencies within it. (This isn't misinformed paranoia, this is true, and keeps CISOs up at night.)
