Yes, that's the most popular one. It's used by the #guix project, which I decided to quit over this, after I was harassed and slurred for pointing out an issue with it.
It's also used by the kernel, #Linux, and many other projects of very high importance in tech.
Some projects write their own instead, for better or worse, but most just copy this one.

The phrase "sex characteristics" is only there because I lobbied for it. Of course, "gender identity" was there from the beginning.
