The first Beatitude is the worst. Who are the poor in spirit? You go check out the mainline flavours of Big Jesus and they'll tell you something that does not at all what those words mean.

"poor in spirit are those who are humble, those who depend upon God completely for every good, bodily and spiritual." Catholic.

"to recognize clearly that one has nothing which he has not received from God" Greek Orthodox.

Hopeless? Spiritually poor? Not big believers? Depressed? That makes more sense.
