I always supported the unions, my generation probably had some of the best working conditions in the world. The past 15 or so years they seem to spend an inordinate amount of time taking a stance on social issues while wages and conditions have stagnated or declined, this might have alienated the base. Membership has dropped, however they have put a lot of money into the Superannuation industry these union-based funds are doing very well. Again, my generation has certainly benefited from union based super funds.
Every March we have a long weekend to celebrate the 8 hour day that was put into legislation at the beginning of the 19th century. Lots of marches in the capital cities all groups are allowed to attend except Nazis and Womens rights groups who are gender critical. I've got a badge to celebrate 20years as a member of the AEU and just spitting chips because its gone missing and I'd love to send it back to them with a copy of Billy Braggs biography and tell them where to shove it.
