Came across this 1977 ARPANET map on the neal.fun site I just boosted.
I showed up at Berkeley just two years later. By then (but not in this map!), we were part of the network, too.
So much in here that fascinates me. Satellite -- whaaaaat? Small number of gateways: IMP, Pluribus IMP, TIP. DEC owned the market -- look at all those PDPs. Control Data was in there a little bit. And down in the lower right, somebody at SDAC wrote networking code for the IBM 360! Wish I had those punch cards!
