ok, new day. Security that isn't.
BT, if you call from the landline the system recognises the number and account so if you select billing you get an automessage stating we don't owe them any money, the direct debit is - quarterly - and the next billing date is 20th October.
So they already know who we are.
You have to tell them the account number and confirm you are the account holder, which I didn't have as it's blanked out in the emails 'for security', and I am not the account holder, I'm just the one that pays the bills, because it's mostly me that uses the phone and once they stopped taking cheques she couldnae be bothered with it.
In the absence of being someone who can't hear on the phone. I'd need Power of Attorney.
This morning I tried again with the website. I put in my email (they one they already use for us) and clicked forgot password. They then sent a pin to that email that allowed me to change the password. I'm in. and the missing account number is at the top of the page.
Turns out I only need to hack my email account to do this terrible thing they thing I might be doing when I phone.
Because there is a crime spree happening in UK, where violent fraudsters break into your house and use the landline to call BT, speak to 3 different people, get bombarded with hellish hold musak for a total of 42 mins - all for the nefarious purpose of GETTING A PENSIONER A BETTER DEAL ON HER PHONE BILL
So be very careful, or that could happen to you.
