I really hate those "westerner surprises Taiwanese with fluent Chinese" style videos. I feel Americans often have an inflated sense of how well they speak Chinese, because if you can't hear tones, you can't hear that you're doing it wrong, so they inevitably dunning-kruger themselves. Also, Taiwanese folks are unlikely to correct them because speaking Chinese at all is already amazing, but don't mistake that for fluency
