In 2005, Hamburg faced a mystery involving their local fauna: exploding toads in non-trivial numbers. The solution was rather wild: It's the crows. They pluck out the poor toad's liver, leaving the rest of the toad unharmed. Once the toad realizes the attack, puffing up as a defensive mechanism causes it to burst and splatter its remains around for up to a meter, due to the sizable hole in its skin. (Article from 2005)
