I know it’s fashionable to knock grass as a bad thing, but it’s only if you trim it to death each week. When it is allowed to produce seeds, it provides food for birds, just yesterday I watched a juvenile gold finch feeding on some, we don’t get many of those this time of the year. Also (native) flowers are quite capable of competing with grass — grass is not the enemy, the lawn is.
