traveltelly on Nostr: Teochew Cemetery Park ...

Teochew Cemetery Park

also known as Wat Don Cemeter) in Bangkok is a historic burial ground for the Thai-Chinese Teochew community. Located in the Sathon district, it was established in the early 20th century and was once a prominent cemetery where the Teochew Chinese, a major Chinese ethnic group in Thailand, would bury their dead according to traditional customs.

In recent years, the cemetery has been transformed into a public park, offering a serene space amidst the bustling city. Although some parts still function as a cemetery, many of the older graves have been maintained as memorials. The park is now used for recreation, walking, and jogging, while also being a place where locals and descendants of the deceased come to pay their respects during certain times of the year, such as the Qingming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day).

The site represents the intersection of Bangkok’s multicultural heritage, blending traditional Chinese burial practices with a modern public space. The peaceful atmosphere of the park, shaded by large trees, offers a quiet respite for those seeking to reflect or relax.
