I use the notification quick-access bar to select between viewing notification types. Quickly. I only ever want to see either all notifications or only notifications of a certain type. The old quick-access bar was perfect for that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "notifications grouping." Can you explain? Is that what the new UI does? If so, I would never use it because it's just too much work to fiddle with since I would have to be changing it constantly.
