Jpeg‐xl seems pretty good. Proper image compression was much needed. On average I get like 60% the size of a png and 76% the size of a jpg (jpeg to jpeg‐xl, which has no further quality loss), and that's in lossless mode. And I haven't even tried the other features such as many channels and layers. Too bad that I have only two soywares that work with it (thanks jewgle), gimp and feh.
