Today I was once again reminded that not all disabilities are visible.
A elderly neighbour I would regularly exchange pleasantries with started ignoring me on the street when I would say: Hi. I was surprised, and thought I may have done something to offend them. I would wave and say hello, sometimes they would react, other times it was as if I wasn't there.
They came up to me today and asked me how I was, and shared how stressful it was to be going deaf, after being able to hear for their entire life. They had gone progressively more deaf in one ear and they weren't ignoring me at all.
