Complaining about "partisanship" or "polarization" is a code smell, so far as I'm concerned. It's true that the polarization isn't great, and it's true that the two-party system has fucked over US politics, but those are mostly symptoms — focusing on those tends to privilege "moderate" politics.
The most basic problem with moderation being that the more extreme the right gets, the more right-wing "moderate" gets.
