I wasn't quite doing high school math in elementary school, but I recall they used to send me to a higher grade level's English/reading classes because I was too far ahead.
I think some teachers, when presented with anomalies, just want to make them go away. Some will react angrily and look for inventive ways to knock you down if they think you're too "uppity."
And don't even get me started on the adults at our church, which I was forced to attend.
