One thing I don't understand is "X was better in the old days, today's X is bland and all the same and only concerned with virality", with X being some cultural/intellectual thing (music, programming, writing, etc...). Especially because these opinions are held strongly and loudly.
I ran into it again today where someone said that programming was so much better in the seventies and eighties.
Like, WAT?
