I am reading a book about the Standard Model, and it all sounds like complete and total meaningless gibberish when explained in words.

Maybe the math makes perfect sense, and the experiments are well-designed, well-controlled, and replicable, but in pure English with no math it all just sounds like a big pile of arbitrary bullshit.
