See I think there’s a power play going on. Balaji Shrinnivasen talks about the network state and I suspect the likes of Musk see this as the future.
I know most folks are vehemently anti state here and understandably so. We could be seeing certain players understanding this and destabilising states to bring in some new version of governance. The difference being they are the new kings and we enter the era of techno feudalism.
I think there could be better ways of organising ourselves as societies. But what Shrinivasen proposes has extremely authoritarian vibes. It won’t usher in a new era of freedom. They talk a lot about libertarianism but they really mean for themselves, take Peter Thiel for example, he pours huge amounts of capital into surveillance and death tech. What’s libertarian about that?!
I don’t have the answers, I’m just some dude who messes about with noises for a living. But I can self host my own tech and use free and open tools where possible. Ideally I’d like to circumnavigate both dystopias!
