Indeed. Though the one thing I'd quibble with is the idea that the state would only release it if they knew they could control it. I think it entirely possible that as long as they could A) be one step ahead of their adversaries using it, and B) it solved a problem they had; ie, the impending collapse of fiat, they'd be okay with releasing it, in lieu of having anything they were better able to control that they believed would actually catch on.



It's always amusing when you get the crowd that eschews Bitcoin because they believe the government made it, and they're here to tell you about it on the Internet that was created by (D)ARPA, delivered to you by platforms such as Apple and Google, while talking to you about it on Facebook and Twitter.



Worth remembering that sometimes, when you fight a war, you end up in possession of enemy weapons systems. As long as you understand what you're working with, there's no good reason not to make use of it to achieve your own goals.
