There is nothing in the protocol that stops that, at least AFAIK. But it's definitely doable.. maybe that's what delegation is about? I'm not sure as i've only been building Nostr stuff for a week. https://nostrify.me is open source so you can just go read the source, and make sure there aren't any shenanigans. Else, i don't know what to tell you. I could very easily have a patched version of the code delivered to my users and steal all their private keys.

I've been around this space for a while though, e.g i've built lightning software that could actually steal all your money. But none of that has happened. Maybe a short answer is: stay with builders who've been in this space for a while. There's a bunch of them. Then go poke around the source code. Then ask around before sticking your private key into that client.
