Well, we may have to disagree on that. People can choose any spiritual path they want, or none at all. What they can't do is impose it on other people through police state violence - which is exactly what fundamentalist christians and muslims are doing. Liberal christians, jews, and muslims rightfully consider our spiritual path to be personal practices that do not apply to everyone. That is the correct way to view religion.
There is no excuse and no reason to interpret the writings of the past in bigoted & literalist ways.
All govts must make it clear to fundamentalists that they can't legislate their beliefs, which the writers of the constitution intended.
If some groups refuse to stop forcing their beliefs on others, passing laws that use the govt to oppress, jail, or execute folks who wont submit to that group's religion, then yes, members of *that sect* are enemies of freedom, enemies of the state, and should be treated as such. No argument.
