Do you believe the magic happens in the edit, or do you have a different approach?

The magic happens in the flow of the writing. Shakespeare didn't get phrases like,
"Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood
Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather
The multitudinous seas incarnadine,
Making the green one red."

in the edit, or by piecing it together. There's a flow, where the words are pouring out. That's magic.
