y’know, I hate all the LLM-based AI slop that’s being slathered on absolutely every commercial product available, but I have little to no issue at all with VLC integrating whisper or whatever to generate subtitles where none are available. I would hope it would be obvious that they were generated rather than supplied subtitles, but even without an obvious indicator I have little to no issue with it.

because it actually provides value and doesn’t require a datacenter to pull it off.
