Wood and bamboo cutting boards are often glued with toxic materials and then sometimes other toxic materials are applied on top to make them shiny. You can ask the seller about this, but most often than not they either don't know or will say it's safe. Best way is to buy local from someone that made it by hand.
I believe there's also stainless steel ones, but that will damage you knives.
