I wish someone had told me earlier that it would be so hard to get our electrical upgrade on the building completed. When we first bought the building we had a big union shop give us a bid on how much it would cost us to do the upgrade. We had the funds to do it, but we really wanted to have a smaller, local business see if they could do the project.
After months of this process dragging on we went to the next electrician, and then the next one. Each one telling us that they would do the project and it wasn’t too much for them to handle.
We are now 2.5 years in to this project and still waiting on our upgrade.
If you asked me what I would do differently it would be, go with the first dang shop that actually sent someone out right away and got a bid turned around quickly. It would have been higher than other options at the time, but now the costs on the project have more than doubled with the way everything is going now.
It did teach us a valuable lesson though. We now get things scheduled as soon as we know we need or want something done, and we also ask other locals or business owners for recommendations. It is so important to figure out who you like to work with and build great working relationships with them.
