There are studies and then there's personal judgment. My judgment doesn't align with the view that social media doesn't impact the mental health of young people. If I look at what social media does to me as an adult, I don't think I want to expose my children's minds to that until they are little more mature.
My children have expressed that they don't necessarily like my restrictions but they have also expressed that they're happy with how they feel when they're not so plugged in.
They have no restrictions for communicating with friends, no device restrictions for productive use. My personal experience and judgment has to reign supreme on this because I will have to bare the downsides too.
If studies are wrong or flawed they have a chance to correct it but with my kids the stakes are much higher. I have skin in the game.
