In his 1953 play The Arsonists, Max Frisch introduces us to Biedermann, an upstanding citizen of a town that's being plagued by arson. When the arsonists knock on his door, Biedermann allows himself to be cajoled into letting them stay as guests in his home. He reasons that as guests, surely they won't burn down the very house where they are staying.
You can guess how the story ends.
We have arsonists who want to set our house on fire. And we have Biedermanns happy to invite them as guests.
