i gave a major report to my political party branch last night on the resignation of western australian premier mark mcgowan last night.

for those not from australia:

- the australian state is a federal system not unlike the united states, germany etc.
- this means we have 'states' (or 'provinces'/cantons/colonies) that came together to form a bigger federated state.
- western australia is a state within the australian state. the executive of an australian state government is known as a 'premier'. this is probably most easily compared to a 'governor' within the context of the united states.
- however in the australian context a 'governor' is what someone from western australia would regard as the 'head of state'--it is the representative of the king of england.
- so, in this context, we are more of a 'westminster' system than a 'washington' system. we are not a presidential system but a parliamentary one.

anyway, my original purpose for making this post was to say this: this marks a big step for me. last night i spoke with the voice of a party representative to my fellow comrades. i think the last time i gave an official report was before i returned back to perth, in sydney, and, even then, it was not on an issue of both central theoretical and practical importance.

and i fucking nailed it. i don't mean to sound arrogant but everyone stuck around beyond their bed time because they enjoyed the discussion so much.

because of my communication skills, the level at which the discussion was conducted was very high, and the analysis we all shared was very incisive.

i've still got it. thank fuck: i thought maybe i had lost my mojo.
