I think this is the #1 thing the two of us disagree on, the permanence of the status quo. History is replete with the selectorate/worldbenders getting wiped out during upheavals - famine, disease, war, revolt, depressions - because they depend on the system functioning perfectly to keep their power. The biggest upset they can take is a recession.
