Replacing the ESD suppressor on the D+/D- lines of the USB port with the PI3USB102EZLEX, which is a 2:1 USB switch IC that also provides ESD suppression. This allows the D+/D- lines to be used by the USB-PD chip at power-on, while also allowing them to be used for the to-be-added FTDI chip for serial access to the host through the USB-C port and the DIN 41612 connector.
