I might add that the philosophical foundation of their slide away from those original writings is the desire to be their own source of authority. Much like the story of Gen 1-3, they wanted to not just "know" good and evil but actually determine it for themselves. The current Episcopal church wants to say that what has been called bad in the past is actually good and what was good in the past is actually bad. That's a lot of power over people.
