They really thought if you point out fallacies in logic, you win the argument and can't be lured in by charlatans. But now it's obvious that most of the grifters use the fallacies as spells to ward off real political critique. I think teaching theory (CRT, queer, feminist, psycho, Marxist) is a much more powerful way to get students to see through bullshit.
