update, she went again this year (Sunday), but there was a lot of low-hanging fruit (literally), so I didn’t have to lift her up.

There’s a loquat tree down the street from where we live, on the way to the park where we walk the dog. Every March since my daughter was seven, I would lift her up to pick and eat some.

I noticed they were back this week, wondered whether she’d still be interested in it. It was her lone day (Wednesday) to walk the dog (her meager contribution on that front despite begging and guilting us into getting him four years ago), and I told her I’d go with her because I had a “special mission.”

She said, “what, get loquats?”

Turns out she was all in.

So we went, and I lifted her up — she’s now almost 5-5, roughly 115 pounds so I had to be careful not to wreck my back — and she got a lot of them and even made me lift her again to get to a different branch.

Hope she feels the same away about it next year.
