Always remember "If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal."
The very foundation of government in so-called "liberal democracies" is the same as in all governments: the protection and the enforcement of the power, privelege, and property of the elite. It will always serve this interests first and foremost. Democracy only exists as an illusion of choice to give people the impression that they can change things, or have agency and choice in the matter.
In reality, the way policies are made by the state rarely depends on the vote or views of the people. This is proof in of itself, but the mask slips most obviously whenever systemic change is brought up. When our rights suddenly stop existing when we challenge the state, the capitalist system, or the social order.
The more you realize that you have no actual power or say in your government, the more you let go of the illusion of democracy, and the more you see the underlying causes at play everywhere. The more you see it, and the impossibility it creates on reform, the more you begin to realize that revolution is the only path to change.
