While some application of AI are worth considering, the most popular use cases, which are LLM and generative, are mostly overrated crap. And while the models are "open" it has nothing to do with open source.
Linux, the most powerful and successful free and open source IT tool ever, originated in Finland, which is EU. But later, huge corporations took over open source and exploited it in a way which could not be foresighted by original open source activists.
We need not only corporate, but also public sector funding for real open source software development. It makes sense.
AI is completely different business. It requires wasting huge amounts of energy, which EU countries mostly can't afford (ok, waste heat can be used for heating - contact us, we already do it!). But at least some aspects of current AI bubble are trap....
