one thing i HATE about adelaide is just how RETARDED the street parking is. it's actually hazardous and caused a crash WHILE I WAS DRIVING!!!
apparently, it's entirely normal and allowed by signs (see the 1P sign next to the parked cars in my image) to park IN THE LEFTMOST LANE!!!! this is a huge problem because australia is a left-hand drive country, and the leftmost lane is also the fast lane (at least it is in perth where im from). this might be fine for the suburbs, or for streets with dedicated "cutouts" for parking, but the example is from a THREE LANE HIGHWAY!!!
im so mad about this because this literally caused a car crash while i was driving earlier today. the perspective in the image is a bit skewed. in reality, the bike lane is moved further to the right, and those cars are taking up an entire third (if it's a sedan) or entire HALF (if it's an suv) of the left-hand lane, as illustrated by my wonderful drawing skills. right in that very spot, a tourist driving in front of me crashed into the rear-right part of the bumper of a parked car.
in my opinion, she wasn't in the wrong! she was driving a rental car in an unfamiliar area, and IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR PARKED CARS TO TAKE UP AN ENTIRE HALF OF THE FAST LANE WITHOUT FLASHERS TURNED ON! i had to swerve into oncoming lanes to avoid slamming on the breaks and causing a car pileup when she crashed (i checked to make sure there were no cars there beforehand). the lady's car ended up having a completely totalled front left side, and her car (and its remains) blocked up the flow of traffic. thankfully, no one was injured (the lady was in shock, i had to pretty much pull her out of the car and turn the engine off for her).
i think it's beyond fucking retarded to allow parking in what is essentially the middle of the road, let alone on a fucking arterial highway bringing traffic into the city. who the fuck thinks of this!!! absolutely insane
