I won't apologise for the mess.
But I wanted to make a little reflection

I was carving yesterday and I noticed my knife being a bit dull. Not just dull but out of tune.
So I took it to my dad's workshop and grinded it with a bench grinder returning it's edgel angle to a steeper degree.
So it came back to life.
With time if I don't grind my tools to a desired cutting degree again they get duller and duller .
In the act of honing the edge you tend to round it. When its a bit round it tends to slip away and crush the wood as it cuts.
More friction, more force required, more prone to accidents. I cutted myself on my finger yesterday related to this.

Tools must be seamless. They need to somehow disappear in the process and they need to give you pleasure using them. That constant dopamine rush you get.

This knife was the first one I created of many. And we married eachother long time ago. It was pure luck the way it was created. I used an old file and an old broken handle. I understand now that the straight shape of the knife lets me create all polygons and the gruesome handle keeps my hand very relaxed as I use it. Not making me tired of it at all. It's perfect for me.

Another thing to consider when creating a tool handle that appeared in my thoughts long time ago:

"Imagine this will be entangled in your hands for eternity, related to your bones flesh tendons and muscles being one thing"
So any little protruding thing or bothering part or rocking play or loss of energy during use or rough surface in touch with your skin will multiply, iterate and compound over time and use.

Either it creates a poor job and a little bit of suffering and the tool is left aside to rot.
Or it causes real satisfaction and dopamine rushes and it becomes an allied part of your body and hence an extension of your imagination.

Think about this in terms of tools in general.
Think about homes being tools.
Think about bodies being tools.
Think about relationships.
Spread those lessons around.
See with iterating eyes.
