Over the last few days I’ve learned much about ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems).
They are these black box systems which scan your resume and remove all formatting and organize it by keyword.
Now that I have the ability to scan my resume myself, I have optimized it for these systems and not for human aesthetics.
I now know why many of my previous resumes fell flat. My agonizing over perfectly formatted LaTeX was actually destroying my chances for an interview from all but the tiniest startups who can’t afford the black box software.
