Recently I've worked on translating a paper about timber trade in Europe in the 15th century and how the Baltic countries were a source of wood for all of great powers of Europe. Also read about Spain colonization of South America and constant search for silver and gold, the Triangular trade, trade relationships with China. I've read about Spain looking to new sources of minerals because Roman Empire had already depleted Iberic mines.
Extractivism is obviously not a product of Capitalism.
