what is it, you might ask? well, SAO, or Sword Art Online, is an anime with an interesting premise, but unremarkable execution. it does have its fans, but others describe it as dull, kinda unsatisfying, or outright use it as the canonical example of a shitty anime
then came a group of talented writers and voice actors who decided that the premise is too good to waste, and rewrote the whole thing, liberally using the original as a canvas for a much better series
