I think, in other words, that it's more Americana and a personality trait, rather than a reflection of actual piety or deep faith.
I think most of them just had never really thought it all through, and have not had their faith challenged, and are just generally emotive and overwrought. As soon as their religion got hard, they were all like, Meh, nevermind. 😏
