They are not the same. Now I have navigation that is only functional when I have cell service which is a problem. So, I have to use my old Garmin, additionally, on the dash, to be sure that I have navigation, making one more thing to plug in. I get your point, but I Android Auto sucks in West Texas, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and probably lots of other places.
