From a speech I gave Saturday: I think our greatest efforts should take place locally, where our collective efforts can support our community.
I ask each of you, think about the role you can play supporting the many programs to keep people fed. Some are run by the Farmer’s market, there are our local food bank growers, and many others. Feed the people, right?
Think of the excellent work done by the Housing Solutions Network, Habitat for Humanity, and all the efforts that went into the tiny shelter communities. What can you do to make sure everyone in this community has a safe roof over their head?
Think of the amazing people at Recovery Cafe and the free meals / safe space that they provide for those in our community experiencing the pressures of life.
Look at the Global Earth Repair Foundation, spreading permaculture, spreading local food, teaching each of us what we can do to repair the planet and save money at the grocery store.
If you have $5 a month you can donate to a local organization, do it. If you have 5 hours of time you can donate once a month, do that.
Disengage from the oligarchs who tell us we need to buy more and own more to be happy. Go through your house, your attic, your basement and give the things you no longer need to someone who does. Go to a repair cafe event and get something fixed rather than throwing it away. Grow some food and share it with others.
Have hope. Be hope. Hold each other up.
