Okay, I’ll bite. I’ll try to provide a counterpoint.

All people are different. Some have more or less experience, or better or worse capabilities at performing certain tasks or thinking in certain ways. We use language to define how these people differ from one another so we might better compare them. Often times, as a short hand version of the description of how we might differ, we attach “titles” to these people. Often times, due to human nature, the titles which refer to the people who have higher capabilities or more experience are often more sought after. This is what status is. And it’s useful too. If I’m on a sinking boat with 1000 people on it, I would sure like to know which one has the title “captain.” And, the title “captain” has a certain status associated with it relative to any other passenger precisely because, when the ship is sinking, he is the one that is supposed to steer, man, and ultimately go down with the ship.
