We often underestimate just how much stuff was published in earlier centuries.

Case in point - I came across this encyclopedia on the domain of Brandenburg with the title:

"Historische Beschreibung der Chur und Mark Brandenburg nach ihrem Ursprung, Einwohnern, Natürlichen Beschaffenheit, Gewässer, Landschafften, Stäten, Geistlichen"

This two-volume work exceeds 2000 pages in length - and was published in 1752.
