The only thing that comes to my mind is to contact directly the author and get the file in exchange for a payment.
Or the old Bandcamp approach where you can download an album in MP3 format after a payment.
Or directly from the website of the author, if the author provides a download link (like Radiohead).
But it's not scalable, and it's possible only with a tiny subset of the content out there.
For everything else, owning the file means, at some point, having to break someone's T&Cs.
