It is accurate, however, to describe religion, trades or guilds, and corporations as tribal or as manifestations of tribalism. These structures operate on principles of in-group loyalty, shared identity, and internal hierarchy, much like traditional tribes.

This is precisely where Christianity-based Western civilization made leaps and bounds in progress—by working to define and institutionalize ethics and ethical behavior across its institutions, actively countering tribalism as the foundation of governance and society. Unlike tribal systems, which rely on kinship and group loyalty, Western civilization sought to establish universal principles of law, accountability, and merit-based structures.

However, this is not "European," "Caucasian," or tied to any ethnic identity—this is Civilization itself. The process of transcending tribalism and instituting ethical, law-based societies is what defines civilization, regardless of geography or ancestry. While history may associate these developments with the Christian West, similar processes of codified ethics, institutional justice, and governance beyond kinship ties have appeared in other civilizations as well, demonstrating that civilization is not bound by race or region, but by principles.
