On my morning hike, I heard American crows mobbing what was probably a red-shouldered hawk, the bird of prey that seems to be most common around here in central Texas. Some blue jays also joined in the cacophony. Carolina chickadees and black-crested titmouse were active along my regular hiking path as usual. Northern cardinals swooped back and forth across the trail in front of me as if they were leading me along, like they always do.
