There was also a revolution in 1979.
If you go way back... D'Arcy (British) bought an oil concession from Persia giving him exclusive rights to any oil he found for 60 years. That started the Anglo-Persian Oil Company which did very well. By 1933, the locals were bitter because these rich Brits with air-conditioned houses and watered lawns were living amonst dirt-poor locals slaving in hot conditions, slogging through mud, and getting shit pay... and the Brits got their wealth from what Iranians felt was THEIR OIL.

Eventually by 1951 the Iranians were pissed and they nationalized the oil wells and refinery and kicked out the Brits.
